What is worship?

As a member, I commit to glorifying God through personal times of prayer, Bible study, and by living my whole life as a living sacrifice for Him.

As a community, we enter God's presence to glorify Him through prayer, music, sacraments, offerings, and the proclamation of God's word.

When talking about worship, we typically use the word worship to describe those times when God's people come together to focus their attention on God and His mighty acts in history and in their own lives. Worship, in this sense, occurs when the Body of Christ intentionally comes together in celebration of what God has already done and in anticipation of what He will yet do. When people think of worship, or even of "going to church," this type of community gathering is often what they have in mind.

But there is another aspect to the word worship. The Apostle Paul often describes worship as a way of living, or as an entire life of grateful obedience to God. In his letter to the Colossians, Paul says it like this: "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." (NIV). In this sense, our whole life, each and every moment, becomes an opportunity to worship God.
